- Ingredients:
- 1 cup toor dal (split pigeon peas)
- 1 cup rice
- 1 onion, chopped
- 2 carrots, chopped
- 1 potato, chopped
- 1 tomato, chopped
- 1 green bell pepper, chopped
- 1 teaspoon turmeric powder
- 1 teaspoon cumin powder
- 1 teaspoon coriander powder
- 1 teaspoon garam masala powder
- 1/2 teaspoon chili powder
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 cup water
- Instructions:
- Rinse the dal and rice in water until the water runs clear.
- Soak the dal in water for 30 minutes.
- Heat a large pot over medium heat. Add the onion and cook until softened, about 5 minutes.
- Add the carrots, potato, tomato, and bell pepper and cook for 5 minutes more.
- Add the turmeric powder, cumin powder, coriander powder, garam masala powder, chili powder, and salt. Cook for 1 minute, stirring constantly.
- Drain the dal and add it to the pot along with the water. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat to low and simmer for 20 minutes, or until the dal is tender.
- Add the rice and cook for 15 minutes, or until the rice is cooked through.
