Bisi Bele Bhath

A hearty one-pot meal of rice, lentils, vegetables and a special spice powder – the ultimate Karnataka comfort food.
🧾 Ingredients
1 cup rice
½ cup toor dal
1 cup mixed vegetables (carrot, beans, peas, potato)
1 small ball tamarind, soaked
2 tbsp bisi bele bhath powder
½ tsp turmeric
2 tbsp ghee
1 tsp mustard seeds
10 curry leaves
10 cashews
2 dried red chillies
Salt to taste
½ tsp jaggery
👨🍳 Instructions

Pressure-cook rice and toor dal together until soft and mushy.

Cook vegetables separately with turmeric and salt until tender.

Extract tamarind juice by soaking in warm water.

Combine rice-dal, vegetables, tamarind juice, BBB powder, jaggery and salt in a large pot.

Cook on low heat 10-15 min, adjusting water for desired consistency.

Temper with ghee, mustard seeds, curry leaves, cashews and red chillies.

Pour tempering over bisi bele bhath and serve hot with boondi.
